After the fiasco at Nationals, Jesse realised that he couldn’t possibly face the plane ride back to Ohio with them. In fact, he couldn’t even face the consolatory party back at the hotel with the rest of his team, opting instead to find anything that could possibly take his mind off of the day’s events.
This resulted in a rather inebriated Jesse calling Shelby at 4am, begging for a place to stay. He now looks after Beth while Shelby’s at work, while he’s not auditioning for shows.
Though, Beth’s affinity for Funny Girl is not what he’s needing at this stage.
…This is basically my headcanon. JESS WHY ARE YOU PERFECT?
Except that I’d add that Jesse secretly loves babysitting Beth, because she doesn’t judge him when he talks about how he thinks he’d be the perfect Fiyero. He’ll never admit it, though.
And eventually he ends up on West End where he is incredibly confused by English slang.
Oh, he totally loves Beth. The fact that she doesn’t judge him for past mistakes is wonderful, and he’s never had anyone showing him that much affection before. He’ll be damned if anyone from any of his high schools knows that he’s anything less than the badass that they expect him to be.
Jesse in the West End? Let me die a happy death.
